"And when I'm lying in my bed,
I think about life and I think about death,
And neither one, particularly, appeals to me.

And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion,
I'd probably get such a shock I'd probably lie
In the middle of the street and die,
I'd lie down and die..."

"All my life I've been searching for something,
Something never comes, never leads to nothing,
Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close,
Closer to the prize at the end of the road.

All night long I dream of the day,
When it comes around then it's taken away,
Leaves me with the feeling that I fear the most,
Feel it come to life when I see your ghost.
...
Done, done, on to the next one..."

1:24AM - Actual news-type post for a change

So, it's been an interesting week or two...

Each of these snippets probably deserve a separate post, but that'll probably never happen, so in bullet-point-ish form:

- Had a birthday; turned the ripe old age of *cough cough*, and felt every year of it.
Didn't have a party or make an "occasion" or it, but spent the night itself in the club, alternately DJing and getting very very drunk, which is a combination I don't usually do, being a consummate professional and all. Ha ha cough cough splutter. Good night though, if a bit weird, and I'm still working on my "mid-life/too-late/already-dead crisis", but what are ya gonna do?

- Got a tooth taken out; at least, the remaining stub of a tooth that's been literally rotting in my head for way too long, and causing me no end of pain and discomfort for months.
It's good to finally be rid of it, but cost more money than I like to spend on keeping my body in one piece (go zombie vampires R US!), and while the gum is healing ok it still hurts like a motherfucker occasionally, but had to be done. Ouch.

- Went to Edinburgh; badly needed a few days out of Dublin and all that it entails, and don't really need much of an excuse to visit what is so far my favourite city in the world, where I managed to relax a bit, sort a few things out in my head, stay in a swanky hotel for (relatively) cheap, take in some gorgeous scenery and architecture, get my creative juices flowing a bit again, and spend some time in the excellent and "delightful" company of [info]alasca78. Long overdue, and I think my feet are getting itchy again already.

- Another Dominion-related dream recently - no Siouxsie Sioux this time, but it did feature a special guest appearance by Blixa Bargeld, who (in my dream) was one of the coolest and funniest people you could ever hope to meet. In the dream, Dominion looked more a top secret military aircraft hangar crossed with The Pulp in Duisberg (*the* coolest club I've ever been in), which was strange. The only actual "incident" of the dream that I can remember is Blixa making a request for The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud, a band that I don't (consciously) remember having even listened to in years and was 99% certain that I didn't even *have any...but after a few minutes searching I found a solitary track, which I played and which turned out to be Blixa's favourite track by them.
Stick that in your Freud and smoke it. 0_o

- Spent way too much money (see above re: dentistry and Edinburgh, among other things); usually I'm pretty frugal, sometimes to the point of being downright tight-fisted, but actually felt ok about spending some money on myself for a change and enjoying being able to do things with it. I'm not out on the street now or anything like that, but May has so far made a considerable dent in my finances, but that's ok, it's been worth every penny so far.

- Hmm...I think there were a couple of other things, but right now they'll keep, and I hope to manage to make this sort of post a bit more regularly (instead of trying to have everything "just so" in my head before I even start typing).

So, as a wise man once said..."Goodnight....whatever you are"

This will never end 'cos I want more,
More, give me more, give me more.
This will never end 'cos I want more,
More, give me more, give me more...

If I had a heart I could love you,
If I had a voice I would sing...
After the night when I wake up,
I'd see what tomorrow brings...

Dangling feet from window frame
Will I ever ever reach the floor...?

6:30AM - Another year older, and deeper in...emo, probably

Very understated birthday, this year, even by my standards - I don't think my heart was really in it, but thanks anyway to the peeps who brightened it up in various ways.

In probably related news, that "all-systems total physical collapse" that I've been working on so steadily for all these years seems to be digging its heels in, yet another reason for not feeling overjoyed at the aging process. I had a vague goal that *this* summer I'd get vaguely "fit" again but right now I'm going to settle for "more human".

Hmmm...also, I'm starting to wonder if I should start using LJ again *seriously*, or stop altogether - seems like these days I'm totally lacking in any supply of news, whimsy or urge for disclosure that'd make it worthwhile for anyone.

2:02AM - A dream - Siouxsie Sioux in Dominion???

Before anyone gets too excited, this was actually a weird dream I had last night (well, when I say last night, I only slept from around 6 to 10 a.m., but whatever), and I don't dream very often these days (or at least if I do, I don't remember it), so I thought I'd share:

---

I was DJing in Dominion, as per usual, doing the early set before there was really anybody in, playing my usual "early" set of mostly old-school goth, downtempo electro, random "non-clubby" stuff that I just want to hear loud, etc. Nothing strange there. One of the last tracks I played in that set was "Red Light" by Siouxsie & The Banshees, again nothing strange there, I've played that track in the club more than once.

So, one of the guest DJs comes up to the decks and takes over for his set...anyway, he starts *his* set with a Siouxsie track, "Cities In Dust". This is a great track, and I love it, but there's such a thing as hearing it too often, and considering I'd just played some Siouxsie 10 minutes before I thought it odd. Maybe he'd been out for a smoke and didn't realise, maybe he didn't care - whatever, at this point I'd been DJing for nearly 2 hours and wanted a cigarette anyway, so I went outside to have one.

When I come back downstairs into the club, I pass by someone who looks vaguely familiar...I say "vaguely" because my first reaction was "Shit! That's not...no, it couldn't be...but who do I know who looks *exactly* like...?" And it was, indeed, Siouxsie herself, sitting in the club, chatting away to a few people who she'd obviously come in with, all first-time visitors to the club as far as I could tell.
So far, so weird.
Then...the next song the guest DJ (who we'll call "P") puts on is *another* Siouxsie track, this time "Happy House" - another great song, but yet another song that's been played to death by many DJs in Dominion over the years (including myself, if I'm honest).

So, I go over behind the decks and say to P: "Hey, what gives, droogy?" or words to that effect...we end up having a conversation where he points out that he's noticed our "special visitor": "Jesus, look, *Siouxsie fucking Sioux* is in our club, don't you think we should acknowledge that fact and play her music?"
I then reply with something to the effect that, yes, it's great that she's in our club, and it certainly doesn't hurt if we make a musical nod in her direction, but *also* that a) we've already played a disproportionate amount of Siouxsie for one night, b) the other punters in the club might get a bit sick of the lack of variety, and c) maybe, just maybe, Siouxsie herself doesn't actually *want* to hear her own music, maybe she's out in a club to hear something new or different or possibly just "take the night off" from "being Siouxsie", and maybe she just wants to be left alone, or chat to her friends, or listen to stompy EBM/industrial and dance her socks off.
Somehow, me saying all this seems to take a long time, as we seem to be listening to half of Siouxsie's back catalogue as it goes on, or snippets of dozens of songs, I can't quite remember.

Then...P glances over my shoulder in a significant way....and it turns out that Siouxsie's been standing behind me for presumably the whole conversation, and now has an indecipherable expression on her face....

At this point, it *would* be nice to say that turned to me and said something like "I totally agree with what you just said, why don't more people get that?", and that we bonded instantly, and I spent the rest of the night intermittently chatting and drinking with her and her friends, and listening to crazy stories, and getting backstage passes to all her gigs (somehow including both future *and* past concerts)...but that didn't happen, not even in my dream.

What *actually* happened is that she reached past me, picked up the request sheet, and wrote something on it. Then she turned back to me, with a look on her face as if to say "You see? Now do you get it?", and showed me the request sheet....

and just before I could see what she'd written, *that's* the point where I woke up. 0_o

----

Like I said, I don't remember my dreams very often, so I wanted to make a record of this one before I forgot it, as it seemed like it *should* be pertinent to...something.
And there's one or two relatively "obvious" interpretations of it that I could make, but I'm keeping them to myself for now. In the meantime, any comments or enlightening remarks are welcome, as always.

Of course, it could have "just" been a dream, and stupid random stuff in my head, and not mean anything at all....

And sleep all day, on a chain link bed of nails.

Steer clear of the sun, pancake, sandpaper skin,

Dated - collapsing new people, watch them - collapsing."

Slightly new format for the track listing too, as I finally stopped forgetting (or perhaps "remembered" might be another word for it), that I can generate a HTML playlist from Winamp in about 5 *seconds* rather than copying and pasting individual file names for 5 minutes. D'oh.

on with the cabaret )

I certainly don't dislike writing up these blurbs for my listening habits, but it's becoming increasingly apparent that I'm very lazy at it, and it's the constant factor in delaying these mixes...so I think for the next couple of mixes, I'll keep the info short and sweet till I get caught up again. Last.fm is where I get a lot of the stuff that isn't anecdotal or in some way personal, so you can fill in the gaps yourself for a while. ;p
